Andreas Feyler
I hold a Bachelor’s of Applied Science Degree in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia linked to the Doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine Program from the Nanjing University of TCM in Nanjing, China. This five year degree course included all the traditional subjects associated with the training a TCM doctor would undertake in China, such as Classical Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Cupping, Chinese massage, Raw herbs and powder prescriptions, gynaecology, obstetrics, paediatrics, dermatology, traumatology, internal medicine, TCM psychology, Classical literature and philosophy, anatomy and physiology, histology and pathology, radiology and microbiology, tongue and pulse diagnosis as well as Western medicine diagnosis.
I completed my clinical training in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine at the First Affiliated Hospital of TCM in Nanjing, China in 1999. I have practiced in busy clinics in NW England since 2000 and completed further post-graduate training in sports injuries, gynaecology and IVF support, pregnancy and labour support, anxiety and psychological disturbances.
I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), a fellow and council member of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ATCM) and their academic executive, as well as a member of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM). I am also a senior lecturer at the University of Wales teaching the clinical applications of acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
I believe that mind and body are linked. I focus on strengthening the ability of the body to fight illness and imbalance. The concept of treating the person as a whole by considering their own individual circumstances forms the basis of my therapeutic aim. I believe strongly in addressing the root causes of illnesses by considering previous and family medical history, social and emotional context of suffering, as well as previous and concurrent other treatments received. My therapies have been applied to many conditions for thousands of years in China and numerous other countries, and are gaining much greater acceptance within the orthodox medical community.
I recognize that Western medicine has made great advances in recent decades and is very good at treating many serious and often acute medical conditions. I always aim to refer conditions that are beyond my scope of practice. In my practices I work closely with private GPs, counsellors, osteopaths, physiotherapist, reflexologists, nutritionists and many other allied health professionals. I also aim to forge greater links to the NHS. I believe that my therapies have a lot to offer, particularly in stubborn and chronic imbalances.
My therapies deal with most concerns and issues associated with ill health. My professional bodies maintain a current and updated list of medical conditions that have been proven in clinical trials to respond very well to these treatment modalities. I am happy to discuss any health related enquiries via a free consultation in person or via telephone.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture preceded herbal medicine on entering the Western
world from China and it is very popular to use acupuncture for many diseases
in the West. The foundation of acupuncture therapy is a network all over
the body internally and externally, which is termed as the meridian system
in Chinese medicine. The meridian system connects all parts of the body
as an organic whole and makes it possible for the body to be in a harmonious
state. Through the meridian system, both chi (a Chinese name for the force
with life energy) and blood flow without an end.
When certain acupoints (points locating on different meridians) are stimulated with needles, it is not just the points that have been stimulated, it is the meridians that have been activated and then the internal organs corresponding to the particular meridians have been regulated through the meridian system.
The way acupuncture works has baffled scientists and a lot of modern studies have been done all over the world trying to get the answer of what is the meridian system. Though we are not yet clear what it is so far in terms of modern science, we really understand that it is safe and effective as an acceptable therapy under the guidance and theories of Chinese Medicine.
